PRE-JUDGED?

OFFICER'S PROTEST. Inquiry Causes Sensation in Salvation Army. POSSIBLE CIVIL CHARGES. United Press Association.—Copyright. (Received 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, May 21. Commissioner Henry Mapp has been dismissed from the Salvation Army by General Evangeline Booth as a sequel to an inquiry by five senior Commissioners. The '"Daily Herald" says there is no appeal from this decision, but questions arising from the charges against Commissioner Mapp may come before the Civil Court.

Commissioner Mapp made a statement to the effect that published statements were incorrect. He refused to accept General Booth's dismissal without a hearing. He agreed that a Court of Inquiry had been held but said there had been a court-martial.

The five senior Commissioners apparently sat in secret on May 14, but were not properly constituted as a Court of Inquiry under the rules and regulations of the Salvation .Armv.

He was not present. His request that certain witnesses should be called was refused.

He was not only pre-judged and condemned without a hearing, but nobody was allowed to say a word on his behalf.

Commissioner Mapp joined "the Army" in Bombay in 1888. He has eerved in India, Ceylon, Canada, South America and Japan. He accompanied the late General Bramwell Booth on hie first missionary journey to India and Ceylon, and wae the pioneer Commissioner in Russia;. Aβ Travelling Commissioner and International Secretary, he hae visited various European countries. Canada, the United States, Australia and Xew Zealand. In February, 1929, dissatisfaction with the administration of the Salvation Army resulted in the deposition of General BramwelJ.Booth and the appointment of E. J.
