TWO AREAS EXCEPTED.

MINISTER'S STATEMENT.

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Friday. The Minister of Education, the Hon. P. Fraeer, announced to-day that all schools throughout New Zealand would reopen at the appointed time after the present holidays except those in the Borough of Giebojne, and in that portion of the Wellington education district embracing Wellington City and suburbs, and the Hutt Valley, up to and including Upper Hutt, Eastbourne, and Day's Bay, and on the western side south of the summit of Paekakariki Hill.

The Minister said he would like to express appreciation for the co-operation of the public during what had proved a moet trying period for all concerned. Although the medical officers were not yet in a position to assess the whole of the damage done by the epidemic, it co.uld be said that it was not 'so serious as in the other major epidemics of the disease which New Zealand had experienced in the past.
