LEAGUE SERIES.

LEADERS TO MEET.

MANUKAU V. PONSONBY.

SHORE PLAYS RICHMOND,

With the grounds promising to be on the heavy side to-morrow, it is quite on the cards that there will be n few upsets at Carlaw Park, when the third series of matches in the Auckland Rugby League's senior championship will be decided. The prospects are for keen contests in most of the matches set down for decision at headquarters, and, wet or fine, the crowd should get their money's worth.

The championship leaders, Manukau and Ponsonby, are starred in the main game on No. 1 ground, and the issue is likely to be in doubt until the end. Both teams have been in good form this season, but much should depend on the forwards. Ponsonby has been teaming excellently since the season commenced, and, given a fair share of the ball, their backs might turn the scales in their side's favour. Manukau is one of the strongest teams in the competition, and their bright and open play, on the other hand, might again carry them through to victory. The game, whatever happens, will be hard-fought all the way, and the spectators should be provided with plenty of thrills. North Shore, who beat Richmond narrowly last week, and Marist, who extended Manukau, will figure in the curtain-raiser, and here again the result is very open. The seasiders' chances will probably be favoured, but their opponents are improving all the time, and they have only to strike their real foim to be hard to beat. Richmond will try conclusions with City on No. 2 ground nt 3 p.m., and the latter will have to show more cohesion than has been apparent in their play to date to carry the day. Die preliminary on this ground will be between Mount Albert and Newton, and the former should not be greatly troubled, judging by Newton's form in the opening games. Teams announced: — MANUKAU. ENGLISH COUNCII/S GESTURE.

RESIGNATION OF TREASURER

"It looks to me as though we have a wonderful opportunity of having the Australians here shortly to nlay matches before they continue their Tour abroad," said Mr. J. A. Redwood, president of the New Zealand Rugby League, last evening, when it was reported that no further

official advice was to hand from Australia regarding the proposal made by the council.

Mr. Redwood reviewed the negotiations culminating in a favourable recommendation by the New South Wales League to the Australian Board of Control.

The English Rugby League advised that it was prepared to pay the expenses of a New Zealand delegate to England for participation in the discussion on the International Board proposal to take place during the visit of the Australian team.

After discussing representations made by a delegation from the Maori Board, it was resolved to make a decision at next meeting.

A letter was received from Mr. Nelson D. Culpan conveying notification of his resignation from the office of treasurer after 20 years' service. Mr. Culpan expressed regret at the necessity of this step being taken for business reasons.

On the motion of Mr. R. Doble, seconded by Mr. N. A. Kyle, and carried, the resignation was received with regret, and a minute of appreciation of the services given to the game by Mr. Culpan was recorded.

The election of deputy-chairman and the appointment of a treasurer were deferred.

The Canterbury League advised that Mr. L. G. Amos had been elected vice-president of that centre.

A report by Mr. Stallworthy stated that there were now eight senior teams in the Bay of Plenty Rugby League. As other affiliated leagues were contributing individually, it was decided to donate £5 5/ to the King George Health Camp Memorial Fund.
