' AUSTRALIAN POSITION. -Average deposits in the ten Auehaliin 1 trading banks (excluding the Common--1 Wealth Bank) reached the recoiil total of £307,191,000 in the January-March quarter , of this year. Compared with a year ago the increase is £14,793,000, which reflects the rises in prices of commodities. As a 1 result the credit position ie«much easier I than it was in the October-December quarter of last year. Advances at £261,461,000 compared with £258,563,000 a year ago.
