BARLEY COMMITTEE.
PERSONNEL ANNOUNCED.

WELLINGTON, Wednesday.
The personnel of the Barley Advisory Committee was announced to-night by the Minister of Agriculture the Hon. W. Lee Martin. He recalled that in November he expressed the desire of the Government to give effect to proposals for the improvement of the barley industry, and indicated that an advisory committee would be appointed to assist the Government in this direction. The personnel of the committee had now been decided aa follows:—
Chairman, Mr. R. B. Tennent, Department of Agriculture. Growers' Representatives, Messrs. R. T. McMillan, Leeston, and H. H. Gilford, Blenheim. Maltsters' representatives, Messrs. R. H. Hewlett, Cliristchurcli, and A. B. Duncan, Christchureh. Mr. J. V. Smith, Department of Agriculture, Dunedin. "In making this announcement," said the Minister, "I wish to make it perfectly clear that there is no intention on the part of the Government of 'controlling' the industry. The aim is ratlier that any improvements which may be effected will he hrouglit about by voluntary co-operation within the industry itself.
"Representation on the Advisory Committee of growers and maltsters should facilitate the putting into operation of improved practices, and I confidently anticipate that the work of the committee will be of outstanding value to the industry."
The first meeting of the committee will be held a£ any e»rly date.
