CITY COUNCIL'S PLEA.
UCEHBIKG AUTHORITY. (By Telegraph.—O|rn Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, this day. The taxi committee of inquiry states in its report that it had received strong representations that the Auckland City Council should continue to be the licensing authority for the taxi service* for the Auckland metropolitan district. The report stated that in view of the fact that the Auckland Transport Board already owned or controlled the public passenger transport services other than railway's!. in its district, the committee thought that it would be contrary to sound administration to create another licensing authority for taxi services, which were an important foim of public passenger transport. The committee was of opinion that the Auckland Transport Board should be the Licensing Authority for taxi services in the Aucki land metropolitan district.
