NO DECISION.

HOSPITAL STAFF.

DIRECTOR'S SUGGESTION. "SERIOUS DISSATISFACTION." Xo reply to a request by the honorary stair of the Auckland Hospital to the Minister of Health, ti'e Hon. P. Fras-jr, that a Commission of Inquiry bo set up to inquire into the recent llc.wpHal Board election of the honorary staff has i-o far been received by the chairman of the staff, Dr. Frank Mucky. It is understood, however, that a reply is on its way to Auckland. On the. other hand, a suggestion that very careful consideration he given to the selection of the proposed appointments, made by recent ballot, is contained in a letter from the DirectorGeneral of Health. Dr. M. If. Watt, to the Hospital Board. Most of the letter is of a critical and confidential nature, and the only part made available for publication reads: — "Although sufficient information is not yet available to enable a decision to be nmde in connection with the honorary staff's request, it is apparent that there is very serious dissatisfaction among the honorary staff, and it is accordingly urged that the board carefully consider the selection of the proposed appointments and ensure to the best of its opinion and judgment thrtt the most competent and otherwise suitable applicants arc chosen."' The chairman of the Hospital Board, the Rev. W. (.'. Wood, is at present in Wellington, and is unlikely to be back in Auckland before Thursday. It does not seem possible that ft special meeting of tho board will be called to deal with the Director of Health's letter this week. The first available and most convenient time for the hoard to give further consideration to the contretemps that has developed between itself and the honorary stall' will probably be next Tuesday, when the board meets in committee.
