M.P.'S PUZZLED.
Anti-Cruelty Bill and Art
Of Faking.
ANIMALS ON THE SOREBN. (Received 1.30 p.m.) LONDON, April 9. That "things are not always what they screen" was demonstrated during the second reading debate in the House of Commons on a bill prohibiting films involving cruelty to animals. Mr. A. Denville (Con., Central Newcastle) cited a film depicting a tiger launching itself at a virtuous maiden who had left the district a fortnight before the tiger actually sprang. Other. M.P.'s mentioned mechanical elephants which had deceived even a circus proprietor. The horses in "The Charge of the Light Brigade" were not brought down by trip wires. India-rubber horses were sometimes used.
