REFEREES' ASSOCIATION.
ANNUAL CONFERENCE HELD. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Friday. Rugby referees from all parts of the Dominion are in Wellington for the annual conference of the New Zealand Rugby Referees' Association, which opened to-day. The chairman. Mr. G. E. Bradley, said that from candidates for examination it was clear that certain laws of the game were insufficiently known by men aspiring to become senior referees. Mr, T. A. Fletcher, a member of the New Zealand management committee, said there was a great deal of room for improvement in the standard of refereeing. Mr. J. N. Millard (Wellington Rugby Union) said that not even a selector Buffered the abuse that referees did, this being due to the ignorance of the public as to the rules. Papers on the laws of Rugby occupied the afternoon and evening. The annual meeting of the association will take place to-morrow.
