Mr. P. J. Nathan returned to Auckland this morning by the Limited from Wellington. Mr. W. K. Gammer returned to Auckland yesterday morning by the Limited from Wellington. The Hon. W. H. Mclntyre, M.L.C., arrived in Auckland this morning by the Limited from Wellington. Sir James Steel Maitland, of Havelock North, arrived yesterday afternoon by train and is at Hotel Cargen. Mr. K. M. Gresson was elected president of the Canterbury Law Society at the society's annual meeting. Mr. C. M. Eichvhite returned to Auckland tills morning by the express train, after a. short visit to the south. Dr. F. L. Hutter, of Auckland, left by the Waipawa on Saturday for London. He will take a poet-graduate course in X /Ondon. Mr. Percival Witherby, a member of the staff of "The Times," London, who has been making a brief tour of NewZealand, was a passenger by the Waipawa for London. Mr. J. Hodgens, MJ. for Palmerston. who visited Auckland with the Minister of Industries and Commerce, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, left by the Limited last evening. Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Fisher, of South Canterbury, arrived by the Limited this morning, and are at the Grand Hotel. They will sail by the Niagara for Vancouver, en route to England, to-morrow afternoon. Mr. E. W. Hullett, chief chemist of the Wheat Research Institute, will leave New Zealand next month on an extended tour of the United States, Canada, Great Britain and the Continent. He will return at the end of the year. Mr. J. H. Downey, inspector of mines, will retire shortly on superannuation. A well-known authority on mining, Mr. Downey has had two books published by the Mines Department, and has also had a text book published in England. Lieutenant-Colonel G. H. J. Skeffington Smyth, a brother-in-law to his Excellency the Governor-General, Lord Galway, *who has been visiting New Zealand on holiday ae the guest of his Excellency, will leave on his return to England *by the Niagara to-morrow afternoon. Mr. G. McNarama, Director-General of the Poet and Telegraph Department, arrived in Auckland this morning by the Limited from Wellington, and will leave by the Niagara to-morrow afternoon for Vancouver, en route to Great Britain. He' is accompanied by Mrs. McNamara, and is at the Grand Hotel. Dr. W. Hawkesworth. house surgeon at the New Plymouth Hospital, sailed from Wellington by the Marama on Saturday to take up the New Zealand Obstetrical Society's scholarship at the Melbourne Women's Hospital. He will later proceed to England. Dr. Hawkesworth is a former cricket representative of the Otago province.
