Mel Walker, a negro student of Ohio State University, has created a new world's indoor jump record of 6ft 9%in. The former record of 6ft 9 l-Bin was held by W. Marty, of America.
The high jump record is slowly going up to the 7ft markj with the negro performers well in the lead. For the paet two years Walter Marty, of Fresno State ( ollepe. U.S.A.. and Cornelius Johnson, of ( ompton Junior College, U.S.A., have been the world leadere, pushing the record up by fractions over > 6ft Bin, the latter standard being their regular performance. Johnson at the moment is the Olympic champion, having won this r year .-with the Olympic record- jump of Oft Bin. He has, however, a jump • to- his credit of 6ft B%m. Walker is a new negro candidate, and his performance- puts the recordan other quarter-inch up towards the 7ft. poal. ;!'■■'■■■
