WINDOWS UNVEILED.
CEREMONY AT TAKAPUNA.
LATE REV. W. G. MONCKTON.
The Governor-General, Lord Galway, in the presence of a particularly large congregation at St. Peter's Anglican Church, Takapuna, yesterday morning unveiled two etained glass windows to the memory of the late Rev. W. G. Monckton. Mr. Monckton was a relative of his Excellency, who was accompanied by Sir Standish" O'Grady Roche and Colonel Morrison Bell. He was received by Archbishop Averill and the vicar of Takapuna, the Rev. R. H. Johnson, and escorted into the church, where in performing the unveiling ceremony he said: "In the faith of Jeeus Christ, 1 unveil this memorial to my kinsman, William Gawler Monckton, M.A., for 27 years vicar of this parish." The service of dedication was then conducted by Archbishop Averill, assisted by Canon F. W. Young, who acted as chaplain to his Grace, while the service of morning prayer was conducted by the vicar. His Excellency read the lessons. An eloquent tribute was paid by Archbishop Averill to Mr. Monckton. He referred to his remarkably wide scholarship and knowledge of national and international affairs, and spoke of his services to the Church and to the community through such organisations as the Workers' Educational Association and the League of Nations Union. The memorial windows are beautifully executed and evoked the admiration of the congregation. One depicts St. Peter and the other St. Paul, and they are the work of Mr. J. W. Brock, of Dunedin, who both designed and executed them.
