NIAGARA IN PORT.

STOWAWAYS FOUND.

PERFECT TASMAN CROSSING.

DAVIS CUP TENNIS TEAM.

After a perfect crossing of the Tasman Sea the Royal Mail liner Niagara arrived from Sydney at Auckland this morning, berthing at Prince's wharf. Due to cargo operations being delayed l>y inclement weather and to a stopwork meeting by the waterside workers, the ship was eight hours late leaving Sydney, sailing at midnight oil Thursday instead of at 4 p.m.

Early on Friday morning two stowaways were found walking round the deck, having apparently gofr.. on board the vessel by mingling with the passengers. The stowaways, two young men,

were taken in custody when the Niagara berthed this morning, and will appear subsequently in the Police Court.

Lashed on to Xo. 2 hold was a 22ft launch, Miranda 11., which is being taken to Suva, as a pleasure craft, by Mr. J. Caldwell, of Fiji. Mr. Caldwell purchased the launch in Sydney. The passengers included the members of the Australian Davis Cup tennis team which will be playing in the American zone. Southern Cross Flier. Mr. J. Percival, jun., circuit manager of Snider and Dean Theatres, Ltd., which controls about 100 theatres in Australia, is visiting Auckland. He accompanied Mr. A. Ben Fuller, a governing director of John Fuller and Sons, Ltd., who is travelling tm Suva. Mr. Percival, who ie also a journalist, is well-known here, having flown across the Tasman several times with the late Sir Charlee Kingsford Smith in the Southern Cross.
