TONE IS STEADY. BUSINESS IS SATISFACTORY
The tone was not. particularly keen at the opening of business at the' Auckland Stock Exchange to-day. though bidding was brisker towards the end ot the morning call. Business done was on about the same value-level as yesterday, though \\ oolworths i X.Z.; showed a drop from £7 7/ to £7 o 6. Banks and insurances were little changed. -u itu perhaps a slight hardening tendency. klectro!\ tic Zincs are a little easier. Buyers ha-, e fallen lid, to £3 L> for the ordinary issue, though tor the preference there are no buyers, and sellers have withdrawn to £3 4 o. A downward tendency in Taranaki Oils was noticed. They have been as high as t> recently: yesterday they dropped to 4 buyers and 3d more for sellers, while this morning the quotes were 2 6 and 3 6 respectively. The Noon Call. The number of sales at the noon call wa* as satisfactory as this morning, the el being but little changed from recent transactions. Bidding was keener than this morning, as a whole, though some quotations were nominal. Austialian Iron and Steel showed a sight rise, from £1 7 9 to £1 B', leavinc the market at £17 9 and £18 3. A sale , ,i/ £o ordinaries was an advance or E4H £3 _/ to £3 3 4 v s. Interest was also shown in Mount Lyells. another metal issue. Buyers fell from £2 13,6 to 13/3. while holders moved in svmpathv from £2 14 to £2 13 9. ' The first sale of Big Rivers since •November took place at 2. 1, a rise of Id. Taranaki Oils changed at 1-3 less, 4 3 to 3, leaving buyers at 2 9, holders at 3 .
