PONSONBY CLUB'S REGATTA. SQUADRON'S CRUISING RACE. MANUKAU CLUB S EVENTS. (By SPEEDWELL.) Viehismen will have a busy day again to-morrow. The Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron will hold two cruising races to one of the popular ba\s nor yet decided, practically all of the keel yachts having entered. GOOD ENTRIES ALL ROUND. The Ponsonby Cruising Club will hold its annual regatta to-morrow afternoon. The entries are very good, totalling 100 boats, including the midgets, which will race in Si. Mary's Bay. The auxiliary scow Raiiiri will he flagship, kindly placed at tlie club's disposal by Captain James McKinnon. She will be anchored off the western' reclamation, where events start and finish. Afternoon tea will be dispensed to members and visitors from other clubs by the ladies' committee. assisted by Mrs. McKinnon. The tirst race, for the II class, is timed to start at 2.30 p.m., followed at intervals of eight minutes by the others. Three tlags only will be used for starting, leaving five minutes between with no flags showing except letter (lags indicating the next class to start. I CONGRATULATIONS RECEIVED. The first meeting of the Royal Akarana Yacht Club was held on Wednesday in the clubliou.se, the president, Mr. L. Heard, presiding. Congratulatory letters were received on the granting by His Majesty the King of the right to use the prefex "lloyal," from Rear-Admiral the Hon. E. R. Drummond, his Worship the Mayor, Mr. Ernest Davis. 1 iie Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron. Taniaki Yacht Club, Devonport Yacht Club, l'onsonby Cruising Clulb, Victoria Cruising Club, Richmond Cruising Club, Herile Bay Sailing Club, Howick Sailing Club, and | Messrs. Walker and Hall. C. H. T. l'almer, W. A. Wilkinson, H. H. Wood aud R. Da rlo w. The chairman said it was pleasing to receive so many good wishes, particularly from Kear-Admiral Drummond, liis Worship the Mayor, and the various sister clubs. They had been promptly acknowledged by the honorary secretary, Mr. L're. The meeting was called as the Akarana Yacht Club, being the last under the old name, and after reading ;he authority from th>* Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty, conveying notification of the assent of His Majesty to the dub s application, the necessary formalities were proceeded with to close the old club and reinstate it under the title of the Royal Akarana Yacht Club. The commodore. Mr. T. McKnight, explained the procedure, and the various resolutions were carried. These provided for the incorporation of ttie old club's members in the new club, also honorary and life members of the North Shore Yacht Club and the Akarana Yacht Club, with the same status in the new clufo. Mr. T. McKnight was elected the first commodore of the Royal Akarana Yacht Club on Die motion of Mr. Heard, who thanked Mr. McKnight for his great help in securing t lie new title. Members must always bear in mind the dignity due to a "Royal" club, Mr. Heard said. The commodore welcomed LieutenantCommander W. Monckton, of H.M.S. Philomel. who is taking the pvace on the committee of Lieutenant-Commander J. T. Lean, now on his way Home. Mr. Monckton Iha nked the clu(> for appointing him to the committee, and said he felt sure that the goodfellowship existing between the Navy and Auckland yachtsmen would he strengthened by this recognition of the good work of the Akarana Club. The commodore mentlonen that the first burgee made with the Naval crown had iH'cn sent to Lieutenant-Commander Lean, who expected to compete In Hie Coronation regatta at Torquay, and would tly the club's burgee his boat. Mr. T. McKay's proposal to refer the question of holding a function in recognition of the new title to the social committee, wag adopted.
