NEW ZEALAND AMATEURS. TO-MORROW'S ATTRACTION. championship meetixg. The annual New Zealand amateur cycle championship meeting will be held to-mor-row atternoon and evening at the Western opringe Speedway. 1 articular interest will be lent the racing for the results will have a direct bearing on the selection «>i riders for the British fcmpire Games at .Sydney next Februarv. Canterbury is sending up a strong team of six rulers. Foremost will be Giles, the Dominion's representative at the Olympic Games last August. Giles is the holder of all the three-New Zealand titles which he won bo convincingly at Wanganui last year However, in Colin Gooder, the Auckland time-trial champion, he will meet a strong opponent. The last time the New Zealand titles were contested in Auckland the slower Domain grass track was used, when Frank Grose won all three titles. With the tastest track in the Dominion available on this occasion it is doubtful if any single rider can win all three titles. At the Auckland meeting each event had a different holder, and it appears as if the national titles will be distributed this year. Murray and ({rant ate two newnames to Aucklanders. but the firstnamed has a terrific sprint, and has had victories over both Giles and ({rose. Giles, however, must have benefited from his riding in England and at the Games last year. He outclassed Wade at Wanganui last year, so Murray must have exceptional powers over the last furlong to head such a great sprinter as Giles. The Wellington riders are a wellbalanced team, with possibly T. Roe the beet. M Green and E. Lawrence will represent the West Coast Centre, and V Manning the Hawke's Bav-Povertv Bav Centre. Auckland is represented by the best talent it has had for manv rears. .1 Wade n ?er of all three titles at Christchurc h in 1933. and the 193T) sprint title and runner-up to Giles last year in the sprint, has been showing great promise lately. L. Gooder has been concentrating" on the time trial, and as few specialise on this event it is expected that whoever beats Gooder will have to produce another Dominion record. R. Triner and G. Patrick have a great opportunity of proving themselves distance men of repute in the ten miles paced event. L. Dwiglit is another rider who has had many attempts at winning a Xew Zealand title without success, apart from his road victories. Perhaps Auckland's best hope of success lays in the junior events, the half-mile and five miles.
