CIVIC LEAGUE.
DRINKING AMONG JUVENILES. The first meeting for the year was held by the Auckland Civic League in the Penwomen's Club rooms yesterday morning. The chair was taken by the president, Mrs. Kenneth Gordon. The business of the morning included the reading of a letter from the GovernorGeneral, Viscount Galway, in which he expressed his thanks to the league for their message of sympathy sent to Queen Mary last year. A resolve was made to write to the Government concerning the urgent need for action to counteract the juvenile immorality in this country. On this subject the league had received a letter from the National Council of Women, which begged their co-operation in obtaining definite information regarding the practice of drinking in dance halls and among young people generally. The league made a resolve to support this movement, and at the same time reaffirmed the need for women police throughout the country. Mrs. A. M. Wilkinson, on the request of the league, agreed to accept the position of delegate at the forthcoming meeting of the National Council. Appreciation was expressed of the Auckland City Council's new traffic regulations.
