WANT COMPROMISE.
AMERICAN COURT REFORM. (Received 0.30 a.m.) WASHINGTON, March 3. Efforts by all factions in Congress to effect a compromise on President Roosevelt's Court reform proposals are increasingly apparent. Abandoning earlier Republican strategy to let the Democrats who oppose the proposals take the lead, Senator A. H. Vandenberg (Michigan), in a radio address, endorsed the Wheeler-Bone amendment to permit Congress to over-ride the Supreme Court's invalidation of any law.
In the House of Representatives, Mr. J. W. Summers said there was a desire on both sides for a compromise. He urged that it was the patriotic duty of"elderly justices to retire voluntarily in favour of younger men. They could retire without shame, knowing they were performing a service to the country by co operating with the Government.
