ROAD RACE.
CONTEST AT WHANGAREI. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHAXGAREI, this day. A field of 12 competed iu the seven miles roud race staged by the I'ycle Kac-ing Club last evening, and a j;reat contest took place. The riders -covered the Nixon Street circuit live times, and only half a wheel separated the lirst and set-oml riders at the finish. | S. Mogford, off 2m. and J. Byers, 1.45, had an exciting over the laet 100 yds, first one and then the other taking the lead, until in the final hurst Morford just managed to push his way to the front. Hie time was 21.H0, and Byers' 21.30 2-5. J. Jjllley, 2.30, was third, doing the seven miles in 21.40, and T. Moore, 2.30, was fourth in 21.50. W. Buckley, off 1.15, again registered the best time, which was exactly the same as last week, 20.10. The club is conducting a 50-mile race to Waipu and back shortly alter Easter.
