HEAVY RAINFALL.
WHANGAREI WILL SOAKED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, Wednesday. The sultry weather of the past few days gave way to a torrential downpour shortly after nine o'clock last night. For an hour or so many people who had retired to bed early were kept awake by the noise on the rooftops. The rain eased, but was followed by further heavy showers early this morning. The fall for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. was 1.64 in, more than the total for February, and the first rain of any consequence for three weeks.
