CORONATION GOWN
EMPIRE EMBLEMS. A TRAIN SIX YARDS LONG. THE QUEEN'S CHOSEN JEWELS. (Special.—By Air Mail.) LONDON, January 29. All-British materials will be ueed for the making of the gown and robe which Queen Elizabeth will wear at the Coronation. Designs are being prepared for the gown, which will be of specially woven, deep ivory white duchesee eotin, intricately embroidered in gold thread, with an emblematic all-over design.
The Coronation dress worn bv a Queen Contort is subordinate to the Imperial robe beneath which it is worn and itf of a formal order rather than dictated by fashion. It is probable that Queen Elizabeth's gown will be made very much on the tame line* as that worn by Queen Mary at her Coronation in 1911—tut on princess line*, with short sleevet* finishing above the elbow and a little ehenikette of lace.
Symbolic embroidery combining emblems of Great Britain and the Empire will decorate the dre«*s back and front— oak leaves and acorne. the Tudor roec, thistle, shamrock, the Star of India, and the lotus lily figured in the making of Queen Mary's gown. Xearly a dozen different tone* and types of gold thread were use<l for working the design to produce variation of tone. The chemisette was of Irteh arid handmade gold lace, and similar lace* trimmed the sleeves.
Queen gown will be designed for wearing beneath the Imperial robe of Royal purple specially woven in England for the occasion, and white nhoe« embroidered to match the gown will be worn. Magnificent diamonds and pearls will form the QueenV jewel*. Lavish embroidery o f gold will decorate the Royal Coronation robe, which will be of one and a half yards wide and eix yard* from shoulder*to edge of train.
The Queen will not wear a veil when she drives to the Abbey, and a striking contract will be provided by the eimplieity of her uncovered hair on the outward journey and the glittering crown and rich velvet robes which ehe will wear on the return drive to Buckingham Palace.
