BUILDING TRENDS.

FIGURES STILL KEEP UP. SUBDIVIDING PRIVATE HOUSES. Though the value of buildirfg permits issued by the Auckland City Council during the past two-monthly period is less than last year's figure for the same period, it is still very considerably in advance of previous years. The total for the period was £100,060, as compared with £13fi.«44 last year, and £48.903 in 1935. The figure for February this year was £49,419. as compared with £60.948 last vear, and £25,580 ill 1935. February's figures show an increase in the number of new private dwellings. Permits for 27 were issued, as compared with 19 in January. This indicates that the tendency of people to wait for the Government housing scheme is lessening. There is also a marked tendency for people to subdivide existing houses into apartments.
