DOCTOR'S REFUSAL.

NAPIER, Friday. The inquiry into the conduct of the Xapier I'ublic Hospital, following which Dr. J. Allan Berry, a member of the honorary medical staff, and also of the board, failed to comply with the board's request to tender lua resignation in seven days, reached a further stage to-night, when the board met to consider dispensing with his services as an honorary medical officer. Seven members of the board voted in favour of Dr. Berry's dismissal and two against, but the chairman, Mr. C. Lassen, declared the motion lost on the ground that three-quarters of the full board, as required by the board's by-laws, had not Toted in favour of the motion.
_ The meeting developed into a discussion of technicalities of procedure and of Dr. Berry's action in not being present *t the inquiry, after which the motion to dispense with his services wa£ thrown out.
