HURRAH FOR THE TUNNELS!

Tunnels provided the greatest thrill, for the seventeen backblocks children during the long train trip from their Northern homes to Auckland. Miss Wilkie, the teacher in charge of the party on the journey, related the children's astonishment when they j>assed through their first tunnel. When the train emerged once more 17 pairs of astonished eyes, all blinking rapidly surveyed Miss Wilkie. "How is a tunnel made?" "Why i* it made?" "When will we come to another?'' were some of the questions rushed in rapid succession at their teacher.
