THE FLOWER GARDEN. ' Sow Sweet William*. Remove seed pods from Azaleas and Rhododendrons. 1 Securely stake Delphiniums, remove spent blooms. Delphiniums will benefit from liquid manure. | Now is the time to lift and replant Flag Iris. Securely stake and tie up Dahlias. Cut away the spent Pentitemoiu and Antirrhinum flowers. I Cut away old growths of Rambler Roses, tie in the young bat*! ! growths. Gladioli can be lifted as soon as foliage begins to yellow. I Seedlings of Amai anthus, Zinnia and Salvia can be planted. ! Lilies can be lifted and replanted once the flowers are over, j Carnation cuttings can be planted. A sowing of Phlox Drummondii can be made. Look over and plan any alterations to the herbaceous border. Many shrubs and rock plants can be propagated from cuttings now. I Sow seeds of perennials and biennials Lift Daffodils and Narcissi. | Make an early sowing of Beauty Stocks. THE GREENHOUSE. ! | Pot up Coleus. Pot up Lachenalias, Freesias, Hyacinths. Perpetual Carnations should be put into their flowering pots, j Ferns will benefit from weak liquid manure. Soot water is excellent. If not available, use sulphate of ammonia. Pot Primula Sinensis, put plants deep enough for soil to come to seed le and hold plant upright. Plants in flower will need liquid manure. | Begonias in flower will benefit with liquid manure. THE VEGETABLE GARDEN. ' Plant out Brussels Sprouts. I j Plant out a few Leeks. Those planted early should have soil drawn up to them. Late Peas should be staked. Do not let them lie on the soil. Wake sowings of Prickly Spinach. Rather large sowings can be made now, as the crop will last longer during autumn. Prepare ground for sowing autumn Onions. Sow Turnips and Swedes. Dry and burn the haulm of Peas and Potatoes, also any woody I waste. The ashes are a good source of potash. Dig Potatoes as soon as the tops begin to go off. Early sown Globe Beet that is fully grown should be lifted and stored. Clear away any spent crops and weeds and sow down plot m mustard or other soiling crop. Make sowings of Silver Beet and Perpetual Spinach Plantings of Cabbage and Cauliflower can be made. i I THE FRUIT GARDEN. Spray late Apples and Pears for codlin moth. Th* n out the growths of Black Currants once crops are gathered. i Cut away the old growths of Loganberries and Raspberries. Hub out the growths of stone fruits once crop is gathered Give stone fruits a spraying with lime sulphur when crop is off. Gather the different fruits as they nature. Collect all fallen fruit. Fallen fruit lying on the ground is a menace.
