MR. SAVAGE AT OAMARU. "A COMPARATIVE PARADISE." (By Telegranji.—Press Association.) OAMARU, Thursday. The Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, and the Minister of Labour, Mr. Armstrong, were given a splendid reception at Oamaru this afternoon, when the Opera House was filled with supporters and friends. The Mayor, Mr. M. F. E. Cooney, anil Mr. J. Rodman, chairman of the Waitaki County Council, welcomed Mr. Savage. In reply, Mr. Savage said the Government was not going to sacrifice the opportunity given it, as the result of the confidence the people had placed in it at the last election, to make this country a comparative paradise. He did not claim that everything done was right; they were bound to make mistakes, lwt they had done things, too. Mr. Savage briefly referred to the Imperial Conference and important matters to be discussed there, and said that what he had said in New Zealand he would say at t'.;e Conference, even if he had to stand alone. The Prime Minister and Mr. Arm strong were entertained at a dinner by the Oainaru Borough Council and later at a complimentary social by the Oamaru branch of the Labour Party.
