METALS ADVANCE SHARPLY.

CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Although metals took a sharp upward move this, morning on Exchange, compared with the rapid drop yesterday, markets in other directions were fairly quiet and values generally tended iii buyers' favour. Bright features included Lvells at a recovery of Bd, to £2 14, (i and £2 14/o. Broken Hills with a rise of 3d for fully p?.iU.; and 1/ for contributing, and Zincs, which moved to buyers for ordinaries at £3 2, t> and sales of preferences at £3 3/9. On the other hand, Goldsbrough. Oamaru woollens, National Insurances and Dun(4>ps eased u fraction. United Provisions, in their rirst local business since August, dropped 3 o in the interim to Id 11. Among the banks Commercials were active, but New Zealand*, quoted with sellers still at £2 4/, failed to do business. Quotations remained strong for Loan and Mercantile between £4o and £46 10/. Government stocks and bouds were dull, and only a few otters were made. Rawang Tins and Mount Morgans, which shared the only sales in the mining section, apart from Lyells. both moved up a little, the former by Id and the latter by 3%d. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
