OLD BOILERS.
PUMPING STATION PLANT. WESTERN' SPRUTOS SALE. \ Fonr Lancashire boilers, installed 66 years ago in the Western Springs waterworks pumping station, have been sold by the City Council to the Auckland Gas Company. They were part of the old steam plant that has not been used for many years. Two were removed by the company last week, a third, was taken out yesterday, and the job will probably be competed to-morrow. Believed to be of wrought iron, the boilers are fine examples of their type. The pumping engine is to be permanently preserved as the chief exhibit of a mechanical museum in the station building. Difficulties had to be faced by the Oas Company's workmen when they attempted to pet out the first boiler, "but later operations were easier. Each 'boiler, nearly 20ft in length, was jacked on to skids and then placed on a wheeled float which required two motor trades to tow it to the gag works in Freeman's Bay. The boiler room of the etatfcm Is to be nsed by the council's waterworks department to accommodate a plant for lining and reconditioning pipes.
