BOROUGH PROGRAMME
MT. ALBERT IMPROVEMENTS. WORKS TO COST £20,000.* Proposals involving the expenditure of £20.000, together with any subsidies available from the Unemployment Fund, are to be prepared by the Mount Albert Council for the coming year's programme. Prominent in the list of works will be road and footpath schemes, park improvements, the development of reserves, and the extension of the borough sewerage system. In recommending the council to adopt a progressive programme, the Mayor, Mr. H. A. Anderson, last evening said the financial position of the boroygh had become steadily stronger, and there was encouraging evidence of progress in many parts of the council's territory. _ Rate revenue had come in freely, building activity had shown a marked revival, and generally conditions were such that larger commitments should be undertaken. The matter had been brought before [the council at this stage to give ample opportunity for a thorough investigation l>v the works committee, and consideration would also have to be given to works authorised but not completed in the current year. Some expansion appeared Ito be necessary in the allocation for drainage, and tlie figure might have to be raised t>y somewhat more than £1000 above that for the past year, reaching nearly £7000. This increase would be required mainly to meet higher wages costs and the rise in the prices of materials. The report of the engineer stated that "bitumen sealing had been carried out in Mount Albert Road, New North Road, 1 Wolselev Street, Cromwell Street, Cricket Avenue, Mount Royal Avenue and Parkhill Road. Preparations for sealing had been made in Sand'ringham Road. The engineer submitted plans for the reconstruction of Pa ice Avenue.
