EMBASSY IN ROME.

A MAGNIFICENT PALACE. ROME. The Italian Government has leased the famous Palazzo Farnese to the French Government on a ninety-nine years' lease. This palace is at present the headquarters of the French Embassy, and was held by them on a twenty-five years' lease, which expired recently. The palace is one of the most magnificent and historical in Rome, and was built by the great architect, Sangallo, and Michaelangelo. The material from which it was built was taken from the Coliseum and from other of the classical buildings of Rome. It passed into the possession of the Holy See from the Bourbon family, and in 1911 the proprietor of the palace, the Count of Caserta, sold it to France. Italy, as successor of the Pontifical States, intervened to reserve its rights to repurchase after a period of twentyfive years.
