FARMERS TO BENEFIT.
INCREASED PLANTING URGED,
(By Telegraph.—Fress Association.) I CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. I The Wheat Committee met in Christchurch to-day and fixed the initial price for buying 1937 wheat. These prices are 7d a bushel above the initial buying j J prices paid last year. They will be ■ j subject to a further payment at the end j of the season. The Wheat Committee hopes growers I will increase their acreage for the i coming year, and some scheme whereby ; these increased acreages will be sown ■ is now under consideration by the committee, and the Minister of Industries and | Commerce, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, hopes I within tho next day or two to make a I statement in regard to the whole question. Range of Prices. The following tables set out the buy- | ing prices for 1937 f.a.q. milling wheat. , Sacks in all cases are extra. I For all f.a.q. milling wheat grown in I the South Island north of the straight ; line drawn from Waikouaiti to (Queenstown, except for wheat in tho LuggateArrowtown districts.—January: Tuscan 5/, Hunters 5/2, Pearl and Velvet 5/4. February, 5/, 5/2, 5/4. March: 5/, 5/2, 5/4. April: 5/1, 5/3, 5/5. May: 5/2, 5/4, 5/0. June: 5/3, 5/5, 5/7." July: 5/4, 5/6, 5/8. August: .*>/■}}, 5/tH, 5/8 - September: 5/5, 5/7, 5/9. Buying prices for Dreadnought are the same as for Tuscan. For Webb's Harvester and Goldberrv they are 2d less than for Tuscan, and for Cross 7 they are the same as for Hunters.
