BOARD DISAGREES

SANATORIUM SITE.

PENROSE NOT FAVOURED.

NEW COMMITTEE SET UP.

The battle of the sanatorium 3ites was revived at the meeting of the Auckland Hospital Boar '. yesterday afternoon when Mr. G. T. Tawin suggested that a small committee be s"-t up to consider the matter anew. Protesting against this, Mr. E. H. Potter stated that the Department was strongly in favour of the Penrose site. The committee of the board had made a thorough investigation and knew that that eite had many advantages. The drift of the population was in that direction, and as it was only seven miles from the city it was eminently suitable. Hβ suggested that the board should make an offer of £14,000 for the Penrose site. If that was accepted, he said, he did not think they could get a better site.

Mrs. W. T. Anderton, Messrs. W. G. Mulholland, W. A. Bishop, W. Waddell, Mrs. M. Dreaver, Mr. J. H. Kinnear and Dr. J. P. Hastings all expressed agree-

ment with Mr. Parvin'e suggestion. There were obvious disadvantages associated with the Penrose site, they agreed. All expressed their belief that the hospital should not be built iu an industrial area. Mr. W. Wallace eald that the Waipiata Sanatorium, one of the most successful in the Dominion, wae UK> miles from Dunedin and 150 miles from Invercargill. Mr. Parvin'e motion was canled, Mr. Potter alone recording his vote against it. The committee, consisting of the Kev. \V. C. Wood, Mre. W. T. Anderton, Messrs. W. A. Bishop and' G. T. Parvin will report to the board in a month. The board also carried a motion, moved by Mr. Wallace that the board express it«s disagreement with the decision of the Department favouring the Penrose site.
