CONFLICT IN SPAIN.
MEDICAL UNIT FROM N.Z.
In connection with a scheme for raising funds for the equipment and dispatch to Spain of a medical unit for the use of the Government troops, the Auckland Spanish Medical Aid Committee held a meeting last evening in the Tivoli Theatre. Mr. T. Stanley presided and other speakers were Dr. J. P. Hastings, the Rev. E. T. Olds, Mrs. M. M. Dreaver and Mr. Hall Skelton. Mr. Stanley said the committee was co-operating with a Dunedin committee, the chairman of which was Dr. D. G. McMillan, M.P. It was estimated that £650 was needed for the scheme, about £100 having been collected to date. Hundreds of applications had been received from young men who desired toj join the unit. A motion, proposed by Dr. Hastings, that the meeting demands that the League of Xations investigate the causes which led to the present civil strife in Spain was carried by acclamation. Mr. Olds said it was only common decency to help with the alleviation of suffering, and he hoped the scheme would meet with unprecedented success.
