DOMAIN GAMES.

RETARDED BY SQUALLS. BRIXTON SURPRISE PONSONBY FIXE CENTURY BY HOARE. In spite of bad weather and the 60ft wickets, which were affected by several showers during the afternoon, there was some attractive play to entertain Domain patrons on Saturday when the second series of matches in the second round of the City and Suburban championship was concluded. Conditions were decidedly unfavourable to the three teams making replies to elevens which batted previously on dry wickets. R.Y. and Green Lane scored four-point wins over Manukau and Mount Roskill respectively, and Brixton sprang the surprise of the day by forcing Ponsonby to a draw. Manukau fared particularly badly against R.V. (274) to end with 116, to which the best contributors were Ninkie (a senior B player), who topscored with 46, and Longville 22. R:V.'s new bowler, Don Cleverley, took heavy toll with eight wickets for 39 runs—an unusually good average for a trundler of his type on a holding pitch. In a second innings Manukau compiled without loss 64 runs (Longville 36 and Ninkie 26). Green Lane had an uphill struggle to reach Mount Roskill's first innings' total of 180 and they did so in two hours and threequarters, going on to finish with 232. Kerr headed the list with a valuable 80 runs after giving various chances. Watts (41). Barnes (33) and Robinson (32) were also conspicuous. Yates (four for 67) and Langdon (three for 9) bowled well for Roskill, who lost four wickets for 51 in i a second strike.

Brixton virtually took the honours of the occasion by withstanding Ponsonby's attack to end with 225 for nine wickets in reply to.the opposition's big score of 377. Hoare compiled a magnificent century—or rather 107 —in collaboration first with M. R. Williams and then with H. Williams (14) and Butler (25). while the remaining batsmen withstood the siege well. Brixton demonstrated that they are a better team than recent appearances might suggest, though it was evident that Ponsonby bowlers were not utilised to best advantage. Kobertshaw took five wickets for 68 runs and was deadly in the later stages. ' Positions of teams:— Ch. P. W. L. I>. Pts.
