TO-DAY IN ' CHRISTCHURCH. VERY ACTIVE MARKET. AUSTRALIAN ISSUES FIRM. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") CHRISTCHURCH, this day. G. J. Coles, Electrolytic Zincs, Broken Hills and JUount Morgans set a strong pace on Exchange tin's morning, Coles jumping by 7/9 to sales, and further buyers at £0 13/. Less than three months ago these shares could be bought for £4. Zinc ordinaries moved up to business at £2 15/6, and preferences had buyers at £2 16/7, with sales yesterday at £2 16/1. Broken Hills gained Od and Morgans 4d. All issues closed with buyers at firm rates. The call was very active for a Saturday morning, and the general tone strong. Typical buyers' quotations included £13 for Bank of Australasias, £10 13/0 for Union Banks, £2 18/ for New Zealand Breweries (after sales at a rise of 4d to that figure), and 13/4 for Jlorts Docks following business at 13/6. Mount Lyells, after easing by Id, closed steady. Taranaki Oils sales we're near the recent firmer rates. Almost the only marked reduction in value was iii Selfridges (Australasia), for which £1 19/11 was paid for a parcel of old shares, compared with £2 0/0 yesterday. Woolworths (Sydney, ord.) were active, but lost ground fractionally. .
