OREWA FIRE.
STORE TOTALLY DESTROYED. LOSS OF TEAROOMS. A tearoom and store combined at Orewa was burned to the ground early on Tuesday'morning and«a considerable sum of money, said to he about .fiiiO. was lost in the blaze. The building, which stood on *he Central Estate, was owned by Mr. William Daubney. It was built shortly before Christmas. j Early on Tuesday morniii;; Mr. Daub- i ney and a youthful assistant rose, made • themselves a cup of tea, and started I i work in the milking sheds some distance ! from the store. About <5.3 ft smoke was J seen coming from the building, and a I minute later it burst into flames. | Efforts were made to save some of I the furniture and stock, but the flames j so quickly gained control that nothing could be done, and the owner was forced ' to stand on the roadway and watch his business burn to the ground. Valuable refrigerating plant and a piano were also lost in the tire. Mr. Daubney is a married man with two children. His wife is at present in hospital.
Mr. Daubney lias already started to rebuild.
