TRADE WITH AMERICA.
MB. KUNCIHAirS TALKS DT U.S. British Official Wireless. (Received 2 p.m.) RUGBY, February 9. The President of the Board of Trade, Mr. Walter Runcim&n, in the House of Commons, had several questions to answer regarding his talks in Washington and his attitude to the efforts to secure free trade between nations. He said: "It was at no time intended that I should conduct negotiations with the United States on any subject. As regards trade matters, I had several useful conversations from which it appeared that further exploration will be necessary before it can be determined whether there is a firm basis upon which detailed negotiations can take place for a reciprocal trade agreement. "I hope the result of our conversations will be to facilitate economic co-opera-tion between the United States and ourselves." Mr. Runciman added that further explorations were proceeding at the present time. He informed the House that United States subsidies to shipping in the Pacific were not discussed during hi« conversations in Washington.
