N.Z. RAMS FOR SOVIET.

WOOL EXPERT'S MISSION. LONDON", February 4. Six Soviet wool experts, Headed by Mr. Mavoroff, will sail by the Rangitata for New Zealand to-morrow to buv pedigree rams for the building up of Russia's stock reserves. These are still inadequate to the requirements of the steadily growing population of the Soviet.

Mr. Mavoroff told "The Sun" that he mi<>ht also visit Australia. He will make up his mind later. The party will not indicate how many rams it intends to buy, though the number is believed to be fairlv considerable.

It has already spent over £34,000 with British farmers, buying 285 C sheep, eight Hereford cattle and four Shorthorns. The members say they would have boyght more, but they * considered the prices too high.

"Our population is constantly increasing," said Mr. Mavoroff. "It is necessarv to develop the breeding side with a view to keeping pace with the demand for wool.

"We have now 73.000,000 sheep, compared with 50,000,000 in 1933, which was the lowest figure recorded; but a gradual improvement is being shown year by year."

The rams bought in New Zealand will be shipped to a stud in Central Asia. \
