IMMIGRANTS ON THE LAND.

Your correspondent on this subject seems vexed because some really creditable independence was shown in the work of building a w-harf at the Clreat Barrier. This is just the spirit shown by the best of our pioneers— independence—and we want more of that sort in New Zealand's next influx from Britain. For example, the early settlers of the Wairarapa built our first railway and also county roads and bridges, roads that delight the Home and local car users, long, straight and well made. The pioneers used their own monev to do this work, had their own choice of engineer, and brought monev from Home. B. KTVC.
