TOO MUCH SPEED.
MOTOR PROSECUTIONS. BREACHES OF REOULATIONS. WARNING BY MAGISTRATE. Comment on speeding was made by Mr. C. R. Orr Walker. S.M.. at the Magistrate's Court this morning when a large numlter of prosecutions were brought by the traffic su[>erintendent of the Auckland City Council. Mr. C. Bland, for breaches of the traffic regulations. Mr. Walker said that if fines were not effective he would have to consider suspension of licenses. Mr. Walker asked why there were a number of charges for speeding and others of dangerous driving. Mr. Bland said that they usually made a charge of dangerous driving for the highest speeds. A numlier of the prosecutions were the outcome of observations by traffic officers in a patrol car on Tamaki Drive. One defendant, who drove a car there at <«0 miles an hour, was fined while fines were also imj»osed on a number of motor cyclists who had exceeded the speed limit. Two motor cyclists said that as they did not have a speedometer they did not know what speed they were doing, and the magisterial adv'ce was to get a speedometer so as to be on the sale side. A case of a different nature was that of a man who fished with a net from the vehicular stage at the Devonport wharf after being told to stop. He was Sncd 10/.
It was stated that there was a general by-law covering all tha Auckland wharves in regard to fishing, but general action had not been taken.
