Lord and Lady Galwav will reside i:i Auckland for a short time after their return from their trip on the Government ship Matai. Captain T. J. Watts, secretary and advisory superintendent of the United Fire Brigades' Association, is at present on a visit to Nelson. Dr. John B. W. Dunlop. of Dunedin. will leave Auckland by the Waimana on Saturday for London to continue his post-graduate studies. Mr. R. L. Grant, general manager in -«ew Zealand for tin: British Empire Films, Limited, will return to Wellington to-night by the Limited. Sir James Parr, who left Auckland recently on a motoring tour of the North Island, accompanied by friends from England, has arrived in Wellington.
Mr. P. L. Wetherby. formerly of Xew Zealand, and now on the staff of "The Times," London, was an arrival at Port Chalmers frcin London by the Waipawa.
Mr. E. P. Kerry, conductor of the Randwick Municipal Band, has arrived in New Zealand to judge the band competition-. to be held at Xekon from Februarv lo to 20.
Mr. A. J. Gunn, who has been a member of the staff of the Hamilton Borough Council folk the past eight years, will shortly leave to take up a position as treasurer of tire Taranaki Hospital Board.
Mr. Richard Boulter, a member of the Cambridge University golf team, and the son of His Majesty's Trade Commissioner in Xew Zealand, stationed in Wellington, has been awarded a golf "blue."
Mr. W. H. Warren, Christchurch, has been appointed Dominion secretarv of the New Zealand Bakers' Association in succession to Mr. F. A. Jarrett, who resigned.
Mr. D. E. Fouhy, official secretarv of his Excellency the Governor -General, arrived in Auckland this morning, ami Major Arthur F. Purvis, military secretary to his Excellency, will arrive on Fridav.
Mr. J. F. Parker, the Surrey cricketer, who has been coaching in Sydney this season, and is now on his way back to England, was an interested spectator at the Plunket Shield match at Eden Park yesterday.
Mr. A. W. Duncan, of Wellington, Mr. H. K. Whitta, of Christchurch, and Mr. J. McMullan, of Dunedin, three members of the selection committee of the Xevv Zealand Cricket Council, returned South last evening. W. R. Eggleton, J.P., of Wotton. Gloucester. England, who was Lord Mayor of Gloucester in 1930-31. was present at to-day's special meeting of the Auckland City Council. He was extended a warm welcome by the Mayor, Mr. Ernest Davis.
Mr. D. F. Duigan, who was formerly prominently associated with the mining industry in Rhodesia, and who is now resident in England, arrived in Auckland yesterday from Wellington. Mr, Duigan is p. brother of Colonel J. E. Duigan, of Auckland. He is accompanied bv his (laughter, and is at the Grand Hotel.
The Hon. H. G. Hawkins, M.L.C.. of South Australia, accompanied bv Mrs. Hawkins, arrived at Wellington this week by the Awatea. Mr. Hawkins is chairman of directors of the South Australian Farmers' Union, one of the largest concerns of its kind in Australia, and a director of the Producers and Citizens' Co-operpcive Assurance Co., Ltd. Mr. and Mrs. Hawkins will spend a few weeks tmiring Xew Zealand, after which they will proceed to America and -Japan.
