*4525 DISTRIBUTED. BUSINESS MAN'S ESTATE. BUND INSTITUTE BENEFITS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, Tuesday. The estate of Mr. John Edmond, of Surry Hille, Melbourne, formerly a prominent figure in the Dunedin firm of John Edmond, Limited, who died at his home in Australia last month, has been sworn for probate at under £105,000. Under the terms of Mr. Edmond's will, no fewer than 28 bequests, totalling £4525, have been made to public organisations and philanthropic institutions in Dunedin. In addition one legacy of £200 has been l>equeathed to the Jubilee Institute for the Bl ; _nd in Auckland. These generous benefactions, which embrace practically every hospital in Otago and some in Southland, are typical of the open-handedness of the late Mr. Edmond. who for many years since his retirement to Melbourne made annual gifts to charitable and other institutions in Otago. The chief beneficiaries under the will are the Presbyterian Soqjal Service Association at Dunedin and the University of Otago, each of which receives £1000. Details of Bequests. Bequests made under the will are as follows: — Slims of £1000 to the Presbyterian Social Service Association at Dunedin for the wcrk of its homes at Anderson's Bay, and to thr University of Otago for the erection or extension of the hon:e science hostel, the income on the amount to accumulate until the capital and the income are sufficient, with any other money available, for the purpose stated. A sum of £300 to the lnatrone of the Batchelor and St. Helens Hospitals, the income derived from this sum to be vested each year in executives named and to be devoted to gifts and Christmas cheer for the inmates and nurses of the hospitals. In the event of both institutions at any time becoming defunct the fund will be vested in the matron of the Dunedin Public Hospital. Sums of £250 to the Presbyterian Social Service Association, to be devoted to the Ross Home; to the Society for the Health of Women and Children (Plunket Society); to the Dunedin Early Settlers' Association; and to the Dunedin Art Gallery to be expended on the purchase of works of art, preference to be given to New Zealand artists. Library Extension. Sums of £200 to Knox College for library extension and replenishment, to the Institute for the Blind. I Auckland, and to the Little Sisters of the Poor, Anderson's Bay. A sum of £150 to the Salvation Army for the work of its homes in Otago and Southland. Sums of £100 to the Dunedin Amenities Society, and to the Dunedin Free Kindergarten Association. Sums of £50 to the Otago Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, to- the Tnvercargill Hospital, and to the Oamaru Hospital.. Sums of-£25 each to the South Otago Hospital. Kanfurly Hospital, Vincent Hospital, Cromwell Hospital. Frankton I Hospital. Tuapeka Hospital, Wallace 'and Fiord Hospital, Tapaniii Hospital, Seddon Memorial Hospital.
