Fairly heavy showers fell during last night, but the rain was not sufficient to affect the tracks at Wingatui. The morning broke tine, but about an hour after daylight rain get in again, and did not clear until most of the training operations had finished. The outside of the course proper, with the trestles nearer the inside rails, was open for fast work. Argentic and YVild Chase set the main for the morning s gallops over seven I furlongs, covering the distance in 1.33 2-5, I after taking 51s for tile first half-mile. A\ ild Chase appreciated the going wi:h j the sting out of the ground, and though ' there was little between them at the finish ' he appeared to be going the better. Paper ; Slipp#r was not fully extended while ! moving over half a mile in 53 4-.V. Helooks well, (."erne Abbas was doing better than Invoice at the end of four turlongs i ll __5 I 3-i>. She finished strongly. Haughty inner and lop Notch finished together over the same course in 525. Supcrcx was not going at top at anv stag* of his half-mile in 1.2. Queen of Song, looklng well after her race at Riccartou, was let oft witll three-quarter pace. Amy Johnson was worked on the inside grass track, and waa* not extended to run half a mile in 1.1. Koval Chief had Happy Knight for a companion over half a mile, and the pair finished on eveu terms in 51 4-&s—a good gallop for two-year-olds. Poniard reeled off seven furlongs in 1.35 3-5, and went well throughout. Top Row ran half a mile by himself in 53 3-as. Davolo completed a circuit by running his last half mile very easily in 1.4 2-5. This horse looks well after his racing at Riccarton. McHeath was steadied to finish with Grand Finale in a gallop over seven furlongs, the last six in 1.24 2-5. New Note easily accounted for Invader over three furlongs in 42 2-ss. Waltham was ridden out to beat Lunuorq over five furlongs in 1.6 2-5. Violenta was sent l away from the nine-furlong post and took 1.55' 2-5 to run the last mile. Willie \\ in ran five furlongs attractively, cover- : ing the last four in 535. Black Kail beat | a stablcniate very easily over three fur- ; longa in 42 2-ss. Half Note, who will be a staiter in the Publicans' Handicap, beat i Trumpet Blast, easily over five furlongs in 1.8 2-5. Palymra ran away from Tunneller anil Rebel Lad over the last three of seven furlongs and recorded 1.33. Palmyra ran the first three in 3i 3-ss. and her's j was a very fine effort, which should bring 1 her into favour. Natty easily held (Jreen ] Boa at the end of three furlongs in 455. but neither was asked to show their best. Forecast sprinted strongly down the ' straight. I Knockfin. who showed some reluctance 1 to go on the track, reeled off six furlongs : in 1.21 3-5. Look Smart was sent nearly a mile, the last seven furlongs taking) 1.43 2-5. Barley Almond sprinted attrae- ( tively over half a mile. Recollection ran j five furlongs in 1.13 2-5. and could have ; done much better. Royal Saxon (IV ('. 1 Shaml) was schooled over three hurdles. : jumping fast and well. Great Kmpire I finished a round at a steady pace by • sprinting home over the last three furlongs. Fairway ran seven furlongs in 1.38. and appeared to be going well within him- ! self. Ashaway was on the course, but was not stripped, and with his trainer ; up joggeil round on the inside track ! twice. He looks well. Octane sprinted 1 home over the last three furlongs of a ! round at three-quarter pace in 455. Viking and Gold Boa wore both let off ; with easy tasks on the inside track, where Travenna "also was given steady work. j
