TESTING OF VEHICLES.
MANY CARS FOUND UNFIT. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) „ CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. Motorists .are required by legislation parsed during the last session of Parliament to have their vehicles tested and passed as fit for the road before March 31. The Minister of Transport, the Hon. K. Seirsple, eaid this evening that he was determined that every car should be tested before being allowed to continue in the road. He had thought the selection of March 31 as the last day would give Fiifficient time for testing, but he did not now intend to adhere rigidly to that date. The Transport Department was extremely busy with tests, and in reasonable cases an extension of time would be allowed. "It is most significant," Mr. Semple added, "that the majority of vehicles the Department has tested so far have been found unfit for the road and requiring adjustments."
The Minister said the law provided a maximum charge of 5/ for the testing of ears. If*, there was any suggestion of price cutting steps would be taken to elitnirate it.
