FREIGHT ON COAL.

INCREASE ANNOUNCED. ACTION BY MERCHANTS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. At a meeting of the Wellington Coal Merchants and Dealers' Association, consideration was given to a notification from the shinning companies that the freight charges on New Zealand seaborne coal would be increased to the extent of 2/0 per ton, and the following resolution was carried unanimously: — "That this meeting regrets that it is necessary to increase the price of Now Zealand'sea-borne coal by 2d per cwt for hundredweight lots up to 'lewt; 0d for quarter ton lots, l/'-l for half ton lots, and 2/0 per ton. Coal nuts are to be" increased by 2d per cwt." The new prices take effect from Monday.
