EARL HAIG'S WIDOW.
VISIT TO NEW ZEALAND. COXTIXUIXG HUSBAND'S WORK. The possible arrival in Wellington on Monday of Countess Haig, widow of the late l'iehl-Marshal Karl Haig, Britain's famous war general, is suggested by a report from Australia. Lady Haig arrived at Darwin on Monday hist from London, and it was reported from there that after living to Sydney she was to sail for Xew Zealand yesterday, and to return to Australia alter touring the Dominion. The Awatea left Sydney yesterday, but there lias been no oilicial notification of Lady Haig's presence on board.
In nn interview Lady Haig said that Karl Haig had always intended to visit Australia, for he had a profound love and admiration for Australian soldiers. After the war he was heart-broken at the sufferings of the unemployed returned nun, and visited South Africa and Canada in connection with the formation of the British Kmpire Service League in an endeavour to assist returned soldiers. His death occurred before he could visit Australia, and she was making the journey in an endeavour to carry on the wotk'he commenced. | Lady" Haig was Lady-in-Waiting to I Queen Alexandra prior to her marriage.
