CRASH INTO GORGE.
TWO MEN INJURED. OXE IX SERIOUS COXDITIOX. (B.v Telegraph.—Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, this day. Two prominent Taranaki men were involved in a motor accident south of Taumarunui at eight o'clock last night. .Mr. Albert Thorne, manager of the Stratford branch of Xewton King. Limited, was severely injured mid was taken to the Taumarunui Hospital. The other occupant of the car. Mr. Trilby King, general manager of Xewton King. Limited, escaped with a severe shaking.
Mr. King and Mr. Thorne were returning from a sheep fair when, between Taumarunui and Tokirima, the car left the road "and plunged 300 ft over an almost sheer cliff into a gorge.
Another car was following, and the ooeupanta immediately went to the assistance of Mr. Thorne and Mr. King, who were found in the wrecked car at the bottom of the gorge. Mr. Thome appeared to be seriously injured. Medical aid was called from a nearby farmfrom the Taumarunui Hospital.
Owing to the rough nature of the country great difficulty was experienced in carrying the injured men to the road. Mr. Thorne was appointed Stratford '.ranch manager for Xewton King. Limited, about a year ago. Previously lie was shipping manager at the firm's head offlce at Xew Plymouth. He is a married mnn with an adult daughter. His conditions is fairly serious.
