MATAMATA MEETING
Calcutta's Easy Win—Lornacre The Sprint. The weather is line for the annual meeting of the Minamata Kacing Club to-day, and there is a particularly large attendance. The track is in excellent order. Those who went for Calcutta straight out in the Tirau Hurdles were always on good terms with themselves, as this consistent gliding snon went to the front, iiiid was out by himself all the way. Passing the stand, Calcutta was several lengths clear of English Xight, with Lady Ruier, Roznl. Valpeen and Count Roussillion following in that order. Count Roussillion fell nt a hurdle along the back, where Calcutta hud a good break on Lady Ruler-, Mio Luine was racing third, and was followed by English Xight, Valpeen, Rozel and Stanstcud. Calcutta swung round the home turn eight lengths in front, and finally won pulling up by four lengths from Lady P.ulor. Mio Liime was half a length" away, witli English Night, Valpeen, Stanstead and Rozel finishing as written. Calcutta goes very fast, and in his last four starts had Won twice, been second once and third
Raepata Just Beaten. The Tal;anini-trained Raepata was made a good each way favourite lor the Hinuera Handicap and he went a line race, beating all Ixit Poker Face, who was one of the first away. Aces Up jumped out quickest from Hyinel, but the field had not gone far before Poker Face ran into the lead and was out in front along the back from Aces Up. Hymel, Cometariuin, Raepata and Very Glad. Art the field turned into the straight Poker Face was just in front of Aces Up, with Very Glad now up in third position. Hymel, Haile. Boy and Raepata were handy. In the straight Raepata came through with a line effort, but just failed to reach Poker Face by half a head. Very Glad was half "a length away, and close up were Haile Boy, Cloonecn and Cometariuin.
Lornacre's Sprint. The smart Lornacrc war; a good eachway favourite for the Waharoa Handicap, and he raced in fifth place till the straight was well entered when A. MeUuahlin . brought the favourite along with a .solid run to win. At the jump-on" Prince Acre and Tin Lap were slow (o move. Lornacre being lirst out. but he was soon headed, and at the end of a couple of furlongs Mungaere was the leader from Boughal, Royal Dance. Lornacre and Tin Lap. Boughal had crone t.i the front at the turn and he led into the straight from Royal Dance and Tin Lap, who were together, just clear of Mungaere and Lorrmcrc. The lastnamed then came through, and, gathering in those in front, he won well by half a lencth from Boughal. with Koyal Dance a head away. Bellkyrian was fourth and was followed by Prince Acre, Mungaere and Till Lap.
