Though during the past fortnight the postman on his daily round has delivered many thousands ol- letters bearing, ominoue heading "Land and Income' Tax Department;" complaints- haye received from a number qf taxpayers that • they have-not yet received their demanjd noticed—and some not «,veii their assessment. ■-•■:-.■■ '■'■ v;.'.' v • ■ .■■'. "■('■.■■'■,■ The question was. referred this morning to the Auckland office of .the' Department, where it was etate'd that the failure to receive notices was due probably to the rush- of work at the Wellington office. Changes in taxation legislation have presented many new problems to the Department, an d have probably resulted in some delay. • ,-, *, It was pointed out, however, that the notices that had earlier, been advertised and exhibited at post and telegraph offices had {riven warning that the tax was due on> February 8, and had .set out that the liability was on the--taxpayer' to ..communicate with the Commissioner.
