The course proper, with the polee about 40ft out, was open for fast work at Te Kapa this morning, and provided excellent going. The plough was ako available, but was not in much demand. Early n foR enveloped the course and made the timing of several horses impossible, owing to the flags being obscured. Sinking Fund and Respectful were practically on terms at the completion of a circuit in 2.5. Both did their work well. Come tnr him was in front of Star Turn at the end of five furlongs in 1.0. Bough al was never at top while coming- home the laet half of his work in 575. Sir Tommywatt just in front of Prince Acre and Susan over half a mile in 32He. Sir Tommy has benefited from his short let up and will probably have his next outing At the Waikato meeting. Sandy Dix was doing better than Racette and La Femme Noire over a round in 2.6 1-5. They ran their first half-mile ,in 565. Desert Wing* beat Mark's Gift narrowly over three furlongs in 30k. Trilliarcn was responsible for a pleasing effort over half a mile ran in 535. He did his work well. Lornacre showed improvement on Tuesday's showing by accounting for Mangulcnha over half a mile in 51 4-ss. The time was not bettered during the morning, and Lornacre pleased by the manner in which he revelled in his task. Sergia hit out nicely over seven furlongs in 1.31%, her first half-mile taking 51s. She was travelling well within herself throughout. Bryce Street was ahead of Tana, who ran about in the straight over half a mile in 54tts. .{ Calcutta was schooled over a round of hurdles, itnd> handled all four in good style. This morning's exhibition was a bis improvement on Tuesday's showing. Thf only gallop on the plough was that of Star , Artist and Whirling, wha recorded 49* for half a mile. It was a smart effort on the part of both horses. Dust Up and Free Advice finished on t;riti« over five furlongs in 1.7.' English >irrht ran once round in 2.5. . •T. Smith stated thin morning that Winlona would not be fulfilling her engagement in the Waharoa Handicap at MataBiata.
